TOUR #2: FALL HIKE SKULL CLIFF-KALLENBERG QUARRY/BOW RIDGE CONSERVATION AREA-October 21. 2023/Rain Date: 10/28
Weather permitting, we'll take on Skull Cliff on Saturday, October 21st. If the rain comes, we'll reschedule for the following Saturday, 10/28. We will meet behind Kelly Jeep on Rte. 1, Lynnfield. Please wear proper footwear. The hike will take about 1.5 hours. Lynnfield Historical president, Ron Sarro has some great stories to share.
You will be led on this moderately challenging 1.5 mile historical hiking tour to the site of the former Kallenburg Quarry/now Skull Cliff. You will hear about one of Lynnfield's earliest industries as well as the mysterious artist, Ichabod, who transformed this abandoned work site into a work of art.
You will also hear the stories of the spiritualists who came to Lynn Woods to conduct seances. Among them was a man and his son, directed by a pirate's ghost, who spent their lifetimes searching for a treasure, creating Dungeon Rock in the process.
Tour #1: Partridge Island Trail, The Henfield House, and Rombult's Cove
We had a great turnout for our inaugural Discover Lynnfield Walk and Talk on July 22nd with three educational and captivating lectures at three historic Lynnfield sites, all within walking distance of each other.
We began with a walk along Partridge Island Trail where society president, Ron Sarro gave a talk on the history of the island and the trail to the background of the sights and sounds of nature.
Next we walked a short distance to the Henfield House where current owner and past president of LHS gave a short history of the house itself as well as the tragic tale of a man who was killed on the property over a century ago.
From there, we will walked across the street and heard the fascinating history behind the “Rombult’s Farm, Dairy and Grove” sign. We learned that for 46 years, what is now known as Village Row, was once a charming family-owned farm complete with farmhouse, gas station, camp store, picnic venue, and much more? Rombult family descendants were on hand to share scrapbooks, pictures, memories, and memorabilia.
